eDiscovery & Electronic Evidence
eDiscovery and Electronic Evidence Services
Nearly every legal matter now involves electronic evidence — email, word processing files, spreadsheets and the contents of the devices they live on. Most of it is never printed, so capturing it correctly is where the matter is won or lost.
Cascade handles electronic evidence as evidence: preserved in a defensible way, processed into a reviewable format, and delivered in the structure your review platform expects.
Preservation comes before processing
The first decision in an electronic discovery matter is how the data is captured. Copying files off a running machine changes them; dates move, and what was defensible becomes arguable. Cascade takes evidence-quality images of hard disk drives and preserves data held on electronic storage media so the collection can be relied on later.
Cascade also provides evidence preservation consultation before collection begins, which is usually the cheapest hour spent on a matter. Deciding what to preserve, from which custodians and in what form is easier to get right at the start than to defend afterwards.

Processing electronic documents into reviewable form
Once data is preserved, Cascade processes it into a form a review team can work in: conversion to TIFF or PDF, OCR so the text is searchable, and coding and indexing so reviewers can sort and filter on real fields.
Processed sets are uploaded into commonly used document management support software or delivered for loading into your own platform. Paper and electronic evidence in the same matter come out of the same shop, which means one numbering scheme and one index across both, not two sets that have to be reconciled.
Ask what we actually do
eDiscovery is a wide term, and vendors differ enormously in which parts of it they perform themselves rather than send elsewhere. The list beside this page is what Cascade does in house.
If your matter needs something that is not on it — hosted review, culling and early case assessment, collection from a cloud or mail system — call 206.254.0444 and ask. A direct answer about what we do and do not do is worth more to you than a page that claims everything.
